Making Bamboozle: Two things you need to know
Updated: May 11
Our aim at Bamboozle is to help you reduce plastic waste in a clear and transparent way, by providing you with a better alternative to single-use plastic.
When we were researching for Bamboozle, we tested lots and lots of toothbrushes over three months. Finally, we landed on a lovely, fully certified company in the Fujian province of China. They grow their own bamboo in a completely controlled and sustainable way – to the point where even the waste contributes to biomass energy. We’re all about that kind of innovation, so we were stoked to do business with them.
Here’s the important bit. When it comes to our brushes, there are two major things you need to know:
Bamboozle handles are made of Moso bamboo, is 100% biodegradable and can be composted at home.
Bamboozle bristles are charcoal-infused Nylon 6 bristles, which are NOT biodegradable.
Now, a lot of companies won’t tell you that in their descriptions or advertising – and we don’t think that’s right. The reason we choose to use Nylon 6 is because it keeps our brushes vegan, as the other alternative is animal hair – and we’re not really about that.
So, the best place for the bristles to go is in your general waste bin, because they’re way too small to recycle. When you’re done with the brush, simply pull them out, or snap off the head.
We’re always looking at ways to do better, so if there are suitable vegan alternatives that crop up, then we’ll be sure to reassess our materials. Until then, we believe that Bamboozle is still millions better for the environment than the current all-plastic offerings available.
